Système politique traditionnel
The Ogbia Kingdom is headed by a paramount traditional ruler holding the title Obanobhan, selected by community consensus rather than hereditary succession. Village heads manage local affairs beneath the Obanobhan. The system is non-monarchical in the strict sense, emphasizing communal selection.
Organisation clanique
The Ogbia are divided into four main clans: Abureni, Anyama, Kolo Creek (Agholo) and Oloibiri. Each clan contains numerous communities administered by village heads.
Grades d'âge
Age-grade associations exist and regulate community labor, festivals, and social responsibilities.
Rôle des lignages
Patrilineal descent structures organize land tenure, inheritance, and social identity. Extended family compounds form the basis of community life.
Autorité religieuse
Prior to Christianity, each town or village maintained its own deity without a single national deity for the whole kingdom. Christian churches, particularly Anglican, now dominate, with Catholic and Pentecostal congregations also present.
